Otoplasty
Otoplasty is a procedure that alters the structure of the outer ear. Otoplasty is most often cosmetic. The most common form of otoplasty is known as ear pinning. Ear pinning is done to flatten protruding ears so they do not have as pronounced an appearance.
How is the Procedure Done?
The surgeon will evaluate the position of the ears and recommend a procedure. Surgery is generally done on both ears regardless of differences in protrusion to ensure symmetry.
The procedure itself can be done with a local, sedation, or general anesthetic. Surgeons usually recommend a general anesthetic for children. Otoplasty Ear surgery usually takes about two hours and can be done as an outpatient procedure or in the hospital.
What's the Cost?
The average cost in the United States is $3,700. In Colombia, the procedure is 30-50% less.
