“My journey with Smiley Aesthetics started early last spring when I was considering a job change out of the hospital setting. I was working as a PACU nurse and enjoyed my job, but I was looking for something with a little more flexibility that allowed me to be available for my family. As a previous nurse injector and Licensed Esthetician, I knew I wanted to get back into the world of aesthetics.

After hearing about Smiley from a friend, I researched the company and the process of becoming an independent nurse injector with them. The bells and whistles went off, and I knew this might be my ticket to the perfect job scenario. I decided to take a chance! I completed my initial training with Smiley Aesthetics in April 2023 and continued to complete my advanced injector training in the summer of 2023.

Ten months into my journey with Smiley, I am now working out of my dream space in downtown Franklin, TN. I have built an established clientele and am performing top-of-the-line aesthetic treatments. I have access to ample continued education opportunities and constant support from a knowledgeable group of medical (and legal) professionals. The Smiley team works hard to ensure their injectors are compliant, well-trained, and well-informed of current aesthetic procedures and policies. Smiley has allowed me to be an independent injector and own my own business while also being a part of a supportive, like-minded aesthetic team. It’s the best of both worlds! I am so glad I took that chance last April 2023, and I am excited to see where this new year takes us!”

Overall, I had an interest in aesthetics as I was receiving injections myself. After having my first child, I felt like I needed to do something for me and I fell in love with Aesthetics. Being a nurse, I grew to have more interest beyond just receiving the injections and I wanted to be the one giving them. Like everyone, I knew the stigma of aesthetics and the difficulty it brought entering the specialty. A deep passion for aesthetics led me to embrace the opportunity to work in this field through Smiley. Carla and Mary Smiley, mentors since childhood, played a pivotal role. Carla’s influence led me to Sewanee for my undergraduate degree as well as 4 years of basketball. Carla remains a constant and inspiring mentor. “I am a CRNA ARNP and began my aesthetics journey in the fall of 2021. I attended a basic botox/filler course with a company I found off Google. After training, I quickly realized there was SO much I didn’t know about the legal and business side of the aesthetics industry. Not only that, there are very few people who are willing to give advice in this industry! As a new injector, you just want someone to bounce techniques and questions off of. I struggled through the first few months.. setting up my own EMR, learning how to chart in a compliant manner, setting up my accounts with Allergan and other companies, and educating myself on actual injecting techniques. It was all so time-consuming & honestly, I felt like I was very non-compliant from a legal perspective.

Throughout all of this, Mary Smiley was always very willing to be a helpful resource & give good support whenever possible – even though I was not working with Smiley! After about 5 months of attempting to “figure” things out on my own, I decided to have a talk with Smiley about the possibility of joining their company. I just knew if I was going to invest so much into aesthetics I needed to make sure I was doing it in a legal and compliant manner. It has been a game-changer since I joined! I have been able to focus more on my injecting & client care rather than spending all my time on the legal & business side.

Smiley also has so many resources I knew I would have to pay a lot of money to get access to! As a “new” injector, investing in my education & hands-on training is imperative to success. Smiley has been the best resource every step of the way. Not only do they have a legal team to make sure I have everything I need to be compliant, but they also have a whole clinical team to make sure I have the tools I need to give my clients the best possible care!! “I started researching becoming a nurse injector while working as a nurse case manager. Prior to coming across Smiley Aesthetics website I felt like I really could not figure out how to break into the world of Aesthetics. It all seemed very confusing, complicated and quite frankly like no one wanted to share any info. From my very first interaction with Smiley that was the complete the opposite of what I experienced. I took my Basic Botox and Filler Course and before a month’s time I owned my own business as a nurse injector and was building my client base. I will not tell anyone it was an easy process because in no way was it but what I can tell you 100% is that I could not have done it without Smiley Aesthetics. As a nurse they spoke to several of the most important things to me – compliance, legality, and integrity. “My Journey with Smiley Aesthetics started late summer of 2023. I was considering opening my own Aesthetics/Med Spa. I have been a Registered Nurse for over 11 years. I have been in Women’s Health almost my whole career as a Labor and Delivery Nurse as well as working in an Obgyn office. I have always had a passion for women’s health but was looking for something closer to home as well as flexibility. I have always had a desire to be in Aesthetics but was unsure how to transition into that area of nursing. After hearing about Smiley Aesthetics and what they had to offer, it was a no brainer. I had researched the company after signing up and attending another Aesthetics Training and felt I just did not get what I was looking for. I took a chance and reached out to Carla Pierson. I immediately signed up for the Training Class. I was blown away by Smiley’s Training.

Not only was it more hands-on, which was exactly what I wanted, but also met others who were looking for the same things. I was excited for this new chapter. I took my class in the summer of 2023. I have since continued more education through Smiley and have learned so much with this group. After 5 months from starting with Smiley, I have opened my own space in downtown Murfreesboro. Meet Donna Smailis PA-C, a dedicated member of the Smiley Aesthetics team. Donna’s path to Smiley Aesthetics was marked by a memorable first conversation with Carla, where she initially questioned the company’s legitimacy due to the exceptional support and opportunities offered. After attending her first training session, Donna took a leap of faith and joined as a mobile Injector in October 2022. Over the past year and a half, Donna has witnessed the remarkable growth of Smiley Aesthetics and is thrilled to be part of this dynamic team.

“I have worked as a Pulmonary/Critical Care PA for the past 11 years. I absolutely love my job, but the challenging environment of the Covid ICU in 2020 took a toll on me both mentally and physically. In 2021, I found out I was pregnant and knew the COVID ICU was not the place I needed to be. While on maternity leave, I attended a training course which left me with little hands-on training and no advice for how to pursue a career in aesthetics.

I do not recall how I found Smiley, but I vividly remember my first conversation with Carla. At the time, the company was relatively small, and I admit I had reservations about its legitimacy.

​My brain: how could they be this helpful?! And nice?! And they will offer me a chance to have my own business? (I definitely had my lawyer husband look into it)
