Meet Our Medical Directors
Ryan Pickens, MD
Smiley Aesthetics Medical Director – Tennessee
Dr. Pickens was born and raised in Murray, Kentucky. He received his medical degree from the University of Louisville College of Medicine. He completed his internship in general surgery and urologic training at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. He then completed a two-year urologic fellowship in Endourology and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
David Sanusi, MD
Smiley Aesthetics Medical Director – Georgia
Dr. Sanusi is board certified in anesthesiology and his specialty interests include pediatric, obstetric, and regional
anesthesiology. He is also trained in ultrasound guided regional blocks, pain management, and aesthetic medicine.
Dr. Sanusi graduated from Louisiana Tech University and earned his medical degree from LSU Health Science Center. He completed his anesthesiology residency in Tampa, Florida at the University of South Florida, where he was selected to serve as chief resident. He then completed additional fellowship training in obstetric anesthesiology at LSU Health Science Center. Dr. Sanusi then became an instructor of anesthesiology and OBGYN at LSU Health Science Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. Eventually, he relocated to Marietta, Georgia practicing anesthesiology and pain management at WellStar Douglas Hospital where he was Director of Anesthesiology from 1995-2007 and Chief of Staff 2003-2005. Dr. Sanusi also served as Director of Anesthesiology at WellStar Cobb Hospital and Medical Director of ApolloMD – Anesthesia division. In 2013, he joined Emory Healthcare and is currently on staff at Emory Johns Creek, Emory Orthopedics & Spine Hospitals and Emory St. Joseph Hospital. Dr. Sanusi has been married 30 years and is the proud parent of four wonderful children.

Dr. Sean Griffin
Dr Sean Griffin
Dr. Griffin is an orthopedic surgeon and partner in Ellis and Badenhausen Orthopaedics. He practices in Louisville, Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Dr. Griffin specializes in adult hip and knee reconstruction as well as trauma and fracture care. He has a particular interest and specialty in anterior hip replacement and outpatient hip and knee replacements. Dr. Griffin has begun integrating the developing field of robotic-assisted joint replacements into his practice.
